This video comes to mind again because of a comment about Hillsong music on Facebook. Yes, there are the scandals, but this comment struck a chord with me. (Couldn't resist the pun!)
The comment (in part):
"Hillsong always bothered me because their songs were always more emotion than substance, and their theology was weak or non-existent. The songs are carefully designed to induce an emotional response..."
Emotional responses aren't bad. They're human, and God designed music to do exactly that. That said, the emotional impact shouldn't be the priority over the goal of worship music, which is to worship God. Some worship music is even designed to share the Gospel.
It's worth pondering all of this. Some Hillsong music, I like, and some I don't. I'm not boycotting Hillsong because of their scandals or their lack of deep theologically sound music. I'm just not a "throw the baby out with the bathwater" kind of person.
